Mozilla turned 10 years old yesterday. Since its launch March, 31st 1998 the project has grown and has had many accomplishments. Mitchell Baker posts that the project expects to see just as much success in the next 10 years.

Source: WikipediaAfter a bit of buzz I’ve decided to check out the new content suggestion tool for WordPress by Zemanta. The tool is installed as a FireFox (Mozilla) addon and automatically runs when you are typing a new post as I am doing now.

The tool creates a new sidebar for you while you are posting that displays relevant content that you can quickly add to your post. Such things as pictures, links and articles are shown that you can add with a simple click of the mouse. The tool also lists the best tags you should use for your post.

As you continue typing your article the tool keeps updating with new content that you can use. This being my first post using Zemanta I must say thus far the tool looks promising and deserves a trial run by any blogger.

I will continue using the tool over the next while and report back my findings.

Day 2

Ok so this is day 2 testing the Zemanta addon and I have a few complaints.

1. Now while adding external links to references is great, I would like the ability to decide for myself if they should be followable or not. Meaning; the ability to add rel=”nofollow” to the external links would be a great asset.
2. I know the makers of the free addon need to be rewarded in some manner, but having the addon automatically add a linked image to every post is rather annoying. The ability to turn this feature on and off would be great.

Other than the above mentioned two issues everything seems to be working just fine.

Day 3

Well I must give the guys at Zemanta credit, I no sooner voiced my thoughts and they were responded to. (see below comments) Now that is the way to do busines: create > listen > respond > recreate.

This is day 3 of testing and I cannot find any other issues with this addon. Things are running smooth, the product is doing a great job. Fresh ideas are being populated constantly along with images and article resources.

This addon is a handy little tool to have for any blogger whether professional or hobbyist.

Day 5

An issue has arisen since  upgrading to WordPress version 2.5 : The tag suggestion is no longer functioning with Zemanta, I assume this to be due to the fact that WordPress has changed the way that tags are both displayed and added with version 2.5 - This will call for a slight modification from the Zemanta team to rectify the small bug.
