Now that you understand what SEO is and why you should implement it on your site, you are ready to begin. The first thing you will want to do is research, you must better understand your site and the keywords surrounding it.
What are keywords?
Keywords are words or phrases that users type in to search engines to find your site. Keywords also tell search engine bots what words on your site are most important. Think of it like filing, what words should your site be filed under?
Keyword Research
Keyword research is very important. You must take your time when choosing the keywords for your site. Your goal is to select keywords that users will use to find your site in search engines.
For this purpose I will list a collection of free keyword research tools for you below. However do realize that these tools are only meant to be guides, you can by all means use your own experience and intelligence to make your final decision.
- Overture Inventory - currently a Yahoo! Search Marketing product - generates a list of related searches that include your term and also shows how many times the term was searched for during the last month.
- Related Pages - generates a list of possible keyword combinations based on lists of keywords that you provide
- Google’s Keyword Tool - generates potential keywords for your ad campaign and reports their Google statistics, including search performance and seasonal trends
- Google Suggest - as you type, Google will offer suggestions
- SEO Book Keyword Suggestion Tool - shows top keyword phrases from Overture; links to other keyword research tools and links at various vertical databases, blog searches and tagging systems to show you top results from other information sources
- Digital Point Keyword Research Tool - shows you the results of your query from both Wordtracker and Overture for determining which phrases are searched for most often
- Good Keywords - a free Windows software for finding the perfect set of keywords for your web pages
Now you will want to start with just a select few keywords, more is not better in the case of keywords. I suggest you start with the three best keywords for your site.

I actually have 2 websites http://www.scaffcalc.com & http://www.scaffcalc.co.uk
how can I find better keywords for the related subject search of the term “scaffolding estimating”?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

@ Paul
By looking at your sites you have no shortage of keywords in your meta tags, I honestly don’t think you need anymore and could probably focus on a few less. The problem in my opinion is within your pages content, the term “scaffolding estimating” is found only once in the text located on the page: http://www.scaffcalc.com/1.html
If you want to rank higher for the term “scaffolding estimating” you must begin to focus on using the term in your pages contents. However there is a method to this, you don’t want to simply add the term a hundred times.
I will be getting more into this in a later post on SEO.
However if you insist on adding more keywords try using a few of the keyword research tools listed in the above post.

Hi
You should check SeoDigger.com.
It allows you to input a site URL and it will then show you the keywords that site has that will rank it among the top 20 in Google. It returns quite a few good answers and allows you to see the Wordtracker and Overture results as well.
One of the neat features of this site is that you can sort by the position, wordtracker ranking, overture ranking and also the most recent keyword request.

@G.Suvorov
Looks like the site you suggest wants users to upgrade to a paid account in order to produce results.
